Both probiotics and prebiotics are important for human health. They play different roles as such: Probiotics are live bacteria that is found in certain supplements or food providing numerous health benefits. Prebiotics are substances that come from different types of carbohydrates (mostly fiber) which are indigestible by human . The beneficial bacteria present in a human gut eat this fiber.
